Travel Planning
Documentation: There are many
things to consider when traveling overseas. You must bring your
passport and provide color photocopies of it to exercise staff - just
in case. If you are not a US citizen you may need a visa for travel to
Macedonia. Check with the Macedonian visa regime here.
You must also complete the SVETLINA application form as it will
contain important contact information should a contingency arise.
Travel: Flights from the
United States to Macedonia are at least nine hours long with one or
more changes so plan your travel comforts accordingly. Be sure that you
have purchased travel insurance in case your travel is interrupted.
Money: Carry some funds with
you for incidental expenses - at least US$200. The event includes a
weekend side trip to the tourist town of Ohrid for rest and relaxation.
You can use credit and debit cards in Macedonia but don't rely on these
alone.
Electricity: Macedonia
uses European-style plugs and voltages. You may need voltage adapters
and will need plug adapters to power any electronic items you may
bring.
Cell Phones: You may
bring your cell phone but be aware that Europe uses a different system.
Note also that cell phone use during the exercise is not permitted.
Likewise long distance telephone and Internet use is restricted during
the week so let your friends and family know that once the Institute
begins you won't be able to call home until the weekend. Emergency
calls are always permitted. |
