FTX Svetlina New Developments

2011

FTX SVETLINA 2010, one of the most intensive field training exercises for future humanitarians in the world, concluded successfully on 29 May 2010 at the Krivolak Training Center in Macedonia. The exercise emphasized key subject areas in humanitarian action well recognized in the international aid worker community. These included safety and security, humanitarian needs assessment, and International Humanitarian Law. Participants practiced critical humanitarian skills constantly such as team building, multi-tasking, and negotiation and mediation.

FTX SVETLINA 2011 will begin with mandatory pre-deployment training in Florida and Macedonia for American and Macedonian participants respectively.

All American students will travel on or before 18 May 2011 to the Public Safety Training Complex at Indian River State College in Fort Pierce, Florida, for two days of intensive training with leading subject matter experts and preparation for deployment just as they would before embarking on a real mission. All U.S. participants - faculty and students - will leave for Macedonia on Saturday 21 May as a team.

All Macedonian students will meet with U.S. advance party representatives in Skopje, Macedonia, on 19-20 May 2011 for similar preparations before they link up with the American students and leave for the Krivolak Training Center on 22 May.
